The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still. ~Exodus 14:14

Alright, so I actually have been trying to write! Really! But the computer turned against me and ate my last post, with absolutely no provocation!! And then some tower got hit by lightening and we didn’t have internet at home for a few days…but at least it hasn’t been months this time(eek!)!!

Though not currently working, life has still been busy and fun! Last Friday night we went to the Summer Savoyards production of Princess Ida which was oodles of fun not only because Gilbert and Sullivan is always good for a laugh, but because we had several close friends in the cast! We were even able to go out for dinner afterwards without feeling guilty, as I didn’t have to get up at 4:00am the next day! Yay!!

Filling out forms, and waiting on hold with various and sundry persons trying to sort out the technical end of taking medical leave has been less fun!! Grr!!!

We’ve also spent a goodly amount of time researching windows of all things, mainly because our house needs new ones! Oh the differences between double hung and single hung, dual double hung vs dual single hung, picture window anyone? grids vs no grids, replacement windows vs new construction windows, low e and argon vs Just low e, all vinyl, or vinyl covered wood, or wood?! Dizzying really!

Oh yes, and our deer, or rabbits, or some hungry creature, has a decided preference for inpatients…and as a sad result, I have none left…sigh

We have quickly acquired an amazing array of feathered friends!!! Our first brave pair of Goldfinches have now been joined by an army of their brethren, as well as House Finches and Purple Finches, an Eastern Bluebird, Mourning Doves, a female Ruby-Throated Hummingbird (Yay!), a Black-Capped Chickadee, a White-Breasted Nuthatch, and a Rose-Breasted Grosbeak!!! I bought a bird book, can ya tell? Mostly the birds seem to come when its raining out, so my pictures are taken through a window, a storm window and a screen as well…add in the rain, and they have no chance of being as pretty as marks..but still fun!!

Other big decisions of the moment include canine friends. We both miss having a dog terribly! It seems so lonely taking our daily walks without our trusty companion..we are trying to decide if it is prudent to get another dog, and if so what kind…are we looking for a puppy? breeder vs. local shelter?…If we were to get another dog, I would want one that was more excited about spending time indoors. As Legolas lasted about fifteen mins before whining pitifully at the door, he spent almost his entire adult life outside or in the barn…we’ve had much advice from friends, suggestions have included, German Shepard, Bernise Mountain Dog, Curly Coated Retriever, Miniature Australian Shepherd, Miniature Poodle and Chocolate Lab…the miniature poodle is definitely out, too small..as well as the bernise mountain dog, too large..and we of course are looking for the dog that is just right!

Because im spending so much time not at work, or knitting, or gardening, ive decided that reading is a good plan! All recommendations are welcome!! Im very bad at picking out books!! A friend of mine has gotten me into the Stephanie Plum series, by Janet Evonovich..the main character is usually so stupid i would normally be too annoyed to keep reading, except they’re hilarious, so I forgive them…as far as more serious reading goes, ive decided to try ‘The Bible in 90 Days’, cover to cover in 12 pages a day…im also reading an archaeological companion to The Bible, which I started once before, but never finished…ive just finished my first week, but am looking for people to read with me if anyone is interested…

All for now!

Birdfeeder Fun!

July 14th, 2008 by Mark

Between our interest in photography and our enjoyment of the finches who frequent the wild thistle in our field, we decided that perhaps we should put up a bird feeder or two. Since we also really love the hummingbirds we see around, we figured that a finch feeder and a hummingbird feeder should lure our feathered friends to our deck!

It didn’t take long as we only put the feeders up yesterday and already, Katherine reported a pair of finches visiting today! A little research confirmed that these are American Goldfinches, or for those who enjoy the proper Latin name, Cardualis Tristis. Fancy, huh? When I got home, I was able to setup a tripod and shoot them through the screen. While the photos may not be perfect, they look pretty good!

Katherine has of course named the pair we’ve been watching. The male is Zorro since she likes his mask. The female is therefore, Lady Zorro.

On another note, I noticed that when I am at work and click on one of the images, I don’t get the enlarged popup with the gray background and the close button. Is anyone but us seeing this? Or is my computer at work just upset as usual?

For God alone my soul waits in silence. ~Psalm 62:1

so im not even going to talk about how long its been since ive written….

The highlights!

The most recent fabulousness was our trip home to Michigan! The most beautiful PinkPrincess is now a MrsPinkPrincess, having been whisked away by her very own PrinceCharming!!!
So much emotion packed into so few days, I came home exhausted and missing Michigan so much it actually hurt!!

Other adventures include a most theraputic trip to the adorandacks!

We had a lovely visit with MomWood in april! The weather was kind, so we went wandering around some of ithacas many gorges! Although some of the trails were still closed from winter damage, with all the spring run off the waterfalls were particularly spectacular!

And cant forget to mention our Easter extravaganza! MomMD and DadMD were able to come out for a nice long stay and we had a marvelous time! We took a trip to the corning museam of glass, and along with seeing some awesomely beautiful glass sculptures, MomMd and I tried our hand at glass blowing!!! We also took a trip down to lancater area and wandered around quilt museaums/stores, found a train museaum, took a ride on a beautifully restored train through the countryside, and spent a day at these amazing gardens. Though it was still early in the year, they have this awesome greenhouse! And of course, any Easter celebration in our family would be incomplete without a fabulous dinner!

Amidst all our fun and adventures of the last few months there has also been a fair share of heart ache and prayers as several close friends battle with serious injury and illness. But thankfully everyone is at least in the as well as can be expected category! As I said, our prayers are with you!

Life around here has actually been a bit melancholy of late. I have a mysterious thumb injury that has me not only out of work, but unable to knit, drive or garden! Its definitely not broken, but that’s about all that is definite. Im told its possibly a diagnosis as nonthreatening as severe tendinitis, but also possibly the very daunting diagnosis of lupis…there’s nothing like sitting at home unable to do anything useful, and waiting…not only have I never been very good at the whole patience thing, but to add insult to injury, as they say, the house is abit lonelier of late, as we unexpectedly had to put our dog down last week due to a rare disease…

Despite our current trials mark and i are trying to remember to count our blessings! Hope that all of you and yours are well!
